The Criminal Court for Financial Crimes at the Court of Appeal in Marrakech has postponed the hearing of the case involving former Marrakech mayor Mohamed Al-Arabi Belqaid and his first deputy Younes Benslimane. They are charged with embezzlement of public funds and complicity in the offense. The session has been rescheduled for July 18 to summon the defendants and complete the expert investigations.
Previously, the same court had brought the case to deliberation and issued a preliminary ruling ordering two expert reports to be conducted as part of the investigation into the negotiated contracts scandal related to the COP22 climate summit. The scandal involved financial losses exceeding 28 billion centimes.
In this case, Mohamed Al-Arabi Belqaid faces charges of embezzlement of public funds, while his deputy Younes Benslimane is charged with complicity in embezzlement. The case has sparked widespread controversy due to the significant financial damage caused to public interests.
