In Salé: 12 People Arrested, Including Minors, After a Night of Violence During Ashura Celebrations

The Sidi Moussa neighborhood in the city of Salé witnessed a night of violence and unrest during the Ashura celebrations held last Saturday. What began as usual festive activities quickly escalated into chaos, including stone-throwing, fires set in alleyways, excessive use of fireworks and gas canisters, causing loud explosions and spreading panic among residents.

In response to these events, the judicial police launched a large-scale security operation on Sunday evening to apprehend all individuals involved in the disturbances. Ten people, including minors, were arrested during the night in a rapid intervention by security forces aimed at restoring order.

Arrest operations continued on Monday, July 7, with two additional suspects detained based on ongoing investigations and analysis of footage from surveillance cameras installed in local cafes and shops, bringing the total number of detainees to 12.

Videos shared on social media showed security forces confronting groups of youths, many of whom were masked minors. Sweeping operations were carried out in the alleys and popular areas to disperse gatherings and put an end to acts of vandalism.

These incidents prompted urgent action by local authorities and security services to control the situation and restore calm to the neighborhood, with investigations ongoing to uncover the full circumstances and bring those responsible to justice.
