Today, Wednesday, the Primary Criminal Chamber responsible for financial crimes at the Court of Appeal in Fez issued its preliminary ruling in the case involving the former president of the Sidi Harazem municipality, parliamentarian Mohamed Kandil.
The court initially acquitted Kandil of the charge of “misappropriation of public funds” attributed to him during his tenure managing the municipality. This ruling follows a judicial process that lasted several months, during which he was tried while out on bail.
It should be noted that this ruling is not final, as it is a first-instance judgment issued by a court of first degree. This opens the door for the concerned parties, primarily the public prosecution, to appeal the decision within the legally prescribed deadlines.
With the issuance of this ruling, the first phase of litigation in this case, which attracted significant local public interest, has concluded, pending the outcomes of subsequent judicial stages should an appeal be filed.
