On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, Abdel Latif Loudiyi, Delegate Minister to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, received Aisha Mohammed Musa, Minister of Defense of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, who is on an official working visit to Morocco at the head of a high-level delegation. This visit comes in line with the High Royal Directives aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation.
Signing of a Strategic Military Cooperation Agreement
The meeting culminated in the signing of a military cooperation agreement between the two parties, in the presence of General Mohamed Briz, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone. The agreement aims to establish a strategic partnership between Morocco and Ethiopia, enhancing cooperation in training, joint exercises, scientific research, military health, and the exchange of expertise in areas of mutual interest.
Establishment of a Joint Military Committee
The agreement provides for the creation of a joint military committee that will hold meetings alternately in Rabat and Addis Ababa to define cooperation priorities and develop an operational roadmap for the defense partnership.
Strengthening Security and Stability in Africa
During the talks, both ministers emphasized the positive and constructive role played by Morocco and Ethiopia in maintaining peace, security, and stability in Africa. They highlighted the importance of uniting efforts among Southern countries to address common security challenges, especially amid the geopolitical transformations affecting the continent.
Supporting South-South Cooperation and Regional Integration
The meeting also highlighted Moroccan initiatives under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, focusing on South-South cooperation and regional integration. These initiatives position Morocco as a dynamic actor in supporting stability and shared prosperity across Africa, through advanced training programs and partnerships spanning vital sectors.
Future Aspirations to Enhance Partnership
At the conclusion of the meeting, Abdel Latif Loudiyi and Aisha Mohammed Musa expressed their shared determination to strengthen and expand this strategic partnership by swiftly implementing the agreement’s provisions and encouraging regular exchanges of visits between senior military officials from both countries.
