Agadir Hosts Fourth Session of the “Marrakech Platform” Meeting to Combat Terrorism with Strong International Presence

On Tuesday morning, the city of Agadir launched the fourth high-level meeting of heads of counter-terrorism and security agencies in Africa, known as the “Marrakech Platform.” The event is co-chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.

This important continental event, held over two days, brings together representatives from nearly forty African intelligence and security agencies, alongside thirty international delegations from the Middle East, Europe, America, and Asia acting as observers, in addition to representatives from UN regional institutions.

The meeting takes place amid escalating and evolving terrorist threats across the African continent. It follows previous sessions hosted in Marrakech (2022), Tangier (2023), and Fez (2024), as part of an integrated approach to strengthening regional security.

The dense participation and growing international interest highlight the platform’s strategic importance as a forum for dialogue, experience sharing, and setting priorities in capacity building and counter-terrorism efforts in Africa.

The “Marrakech Platform,” now a fixed date on the African security agenda, aims to consolidate South-South cooperation and enhance joint security coordination to face transnational terrorist challenges.
