The judicial panel of the Criminal Chamber at the Court of Appeal in Rabat is continuing to examine the case of a young woman accused of human trafficking. She is charged with recruiting girls and sending them to Gulf countries, where they were allegedly coerced into corruption and prostitution.
The court had postponed the case until the end of the current month at the request of the defense team to allow time for preparing pleadings and reviewing the case files and investigation reports. The accused, a woman in her twenties, was arrested by Moroccan authorities after being wanted in Bahrain, where she was sentenced in absentia to five years in prison for involvement in human trafficking.
Following her arrest, she was placed under judicial custody and subjected to preliminary investigations supervised by the public prosecutor’s office. Subsequently, the public prosecutor referred her to the investigating judge for detention and detailed interrogation regarding the charges.
Investigations revealed her alleged involvement in trafficking girls and exploiting them in prostitution within a Gulf state, based on complaints filed by some victims. This led to her trial in absentia and sentencing to five years imprisonment in Bahrain. She fled the Gulf region and returned to Morocco, where she was promptly arrested upon arrival.
The case dates back to April of last year, when the family of a victim filed a complaint with security services. The complaint stated that the accused had arranged a job contract for the victim in a Gulf country in exchange for a substantial sum of money. However, the offer turned into a nightmare, as the victim was forcibly detained and compelled to participate in immoral gatherings and sexual performances.
Security agencies responded swiftly to the complaints and managed to track and arrest the accused. It was later confirmed that she was already under judicial scrutiny in Bahrain for similar corruption cases and had been sentenced in absentia.
The trial is ongoing at the Rabat Court of Appeal, with close judicial monitoring, awaiting a final verdict in this serious case that highlights the dangers posed by networks trafficking and exploiting girls abroad.
