The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) reported that traffic accidents in urban areas during the week from June 2 to June 8 resulted in 31 fatalities and 2,853 injuries, including 132 serious cases, across a total of 2,087 accidents.
According to the official statement, the main causes of these accidents, ranked by frequency, include driver inattention, failure to respect right of way, excessive speed, pedestrian inattention, failure to maintain a safe distance, loss of vehicle control, changing direction without signaling, prohibited lane changes, ignoring stop signs, driving in the wrong direction, driving on the left side of the road, running red lights, driving under the influence of alcohol, and improper overtaking.
Regarding enforcement efforts, security services recorded 46,363 traffic violations, issued 7,210 reports forwarded to the public prosecutor’s office, and collected 39,153 on-the-spot fines totaling 8,458,925 Moroccan dirhams.
The statement also noted that 4,445 vehicles were impounded, 7,210 driving documents were confiscated, and 540 vehicles were immobilized due to traffic offenses.
These figures reflect ongoing efforts by the security authorities to reduce traffic accidents and enhance road safety through intensified monitoring and strict enforcement measures against violators.
