Fez, Morocco – National coach Walid Regragui revealed today, Tuesday, that his decision to host the upcoming two friendly matches for the Moroccan national team against Tunisia and Benin in the city of Fez comes to compensate for the long absence of the “Atlas Lions” from playing in this historic city, which has lasted for more than 16 years.
Regragui explained, during a press conference held today, that the last time the Moroccan national team played a match in Fez was in 2009. He stated: “Just as we went to Oujda stadium and then Tangier, it is now Fez’s turn, which has not seen the national team for a long time.”
The coach added that the decision to play the two friendly matches at the Grand Stadium of Fez came at the suggestion of the administrative staff of the national team, emphasizing that the city justly deserves to host the national team, given the great passion of its fans for football. He noted that this aligns with other Moroccan cities that have recently hosted national team matches, as part of a comprehensive strategy.
Regragui stressed that scheduling friendly matches in various regions of the Kingdom falls within a comprehensive vision aimed at enhancing proximity between the national team and its loyal fans, and providing all cities with the opportunity to host major football events. He affirmed that the fans of Fez deserve to watch their national team up close after a long wait.
It is worth noting that the Moroccan national team will face Tunisia on June 6, followed by another friendly match against Benin on June 9, as part of its preparations for upcoming competitions.
