The Israeli army announced on Sunday that it had intercepted a missile fired by the Houthi movement from Yemen, as air raid sirens sounded in several areas of occupied Palestine.
The sirens were activated in the city of Jerusalem, as reported by AFP journalists.
The Israeli army confirmed that the missile was intercepted, according to a official statement.
Palestinian medical sources reported that there were injuries among civilians, but no fatalities.
The Houthi movement announced, in an official statement, that the missile was a “hypersonic ballistic missile” and that it was fired towards Ben Gurion International Airport, near Tel Aviv.
It is worth noting that Ben Gurion International Airport is one of the most important airports in occupied Palestine.
The Israeli army had previously announced, on Thursday, the interception of two missiles fired by the Houthi movement from Yemen, and Palestinian medical sources reported that there were injuries among civilians.
Since the start of the war on Gaza, which was announced by the Israeli army on October 7, 2023, after the attack launched by Hamas on Israel, the Houthi movement, which is supported by Iran, has announced the launch of dozens of missiles and drones towards Israel, most of which were intercepted by the Israeli army.
The Houthi movement has also attacked ships belonging to Israeli companies in the Red Sea, where about 12% of global trade passes through.
The Houthi movement announced, on Monday, that it would impose a naval blockade on the port of Haifa, the main port in occupied Palestine, and warned that ships heading to the port would be targeted.
It is worth noting that the Houthi movement, which is supported by Iran, controls the capital Sana’a and other cities in Yemen.
A missile fired by the Houthi movement, on May 4, had hit, for the first time, the perimeter of Ben Gurion International Airport.
The Israeli army has announced, on several occasions, the launch of airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, including ports and Sana’a airport.
