Some press websites and social media accounts have circulated news with inaccurate details, claiming that foreign tourists were subjected to violent robbery while walking along the coastal strip of Agadir city.
To inform public opinion, Agadir Security Prefecture confirms that tourist police officers arrested two individuals on Saturday afternoon, aged 21 and 31, one of whom has a criminal record, on suspicion of involvement in a case related to the use of violence against foreign tourists.
Preliminary investigation data indicates that the suspects entered into an incidental dispute with the foreign tourists while they were at Agadir beach, before the situation escalated to the suspects subjecting the foreign citizens to violence, in addition to one of them losing their mobile phone under circumstances that the investigation is currently working to determine the details and background.
The immediate intervention of tourist police officers resulted in the arrest of the suspects at the scene, while the foreign tourists were transported to the hospital, where they received the necessary initial medical treatment.
The suspects have been placed under police custody pending the judicial investigation being conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office, in order to uncover all circumstances and details of this case, and to determine the criminal acts attributed to those concerned.
