Agadir, Morocco – As part of the “African Lion 2025” exercise, held in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces1 (FAR), a ceremony was held on Thursday at the headquarters of the Southern Zone Staff in Agadir, in honor of representatives from participating nations.
On this occasion, Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone, emphasized that the “African Lion” exercise “bears witness to the level of maturity achieved in the military cooperation linking Morocco and the United States of America.” He also noted that these maneuvers “reflect a common commitment to the principles of security and peace, as well as the strengthening and unification of concepts in light of the current changes on the international scene.”

For his part, General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), stated that “the United States and Morocco are developing a relationship based on military cooperation and common interests.” He added that “‘African Lion’ is more than just an exercise; it is the continent’s largest military engagement.”
General Langley stressed: “Together, African nations, European partners and allies, and even from around the world, are gathered here to witness how troops come together and work towards interoperability and effectiveness, and to strengthen cohesion on a global scale.”
“African Lion” is a combined joint exercise organized annually by the FAR and the U.S. Armed Forces.
This exercise, which will continue until May 23 in the regions of Agadir, Tan-Tan, Tiznit, Kenitra, Ben Guerir, and Tifnit, aims to be an annual event that contributes to solidifying Moroccan-American military cooperation and also to strengthening exchange between the armed forces of different countries with the goal of promoting security and stability in the region.
