Casablanca – The Ain Sebaa Criminal Court in Casablanca has handed down both active and suspended prison sentences against members of the Jirando family, associated with the “Tahaddi” (Challenge) channel, known for its “suspicious activities” originating from Canada. The convictions stem from charges related to threatening, extortion, and spreading false allegations.
The court sentenced Jirando’s sister to a two-month suspended prison sentence and a fine. Her husband received a two-year active prison sentence and a fine, while their son was convicted to three years of active imprisonment and a fine.
In the same case, the court also convicted four other individuals connected to Jirando and an investor. Two of these individuals were sentenced to three years of active imprisonment, another to two years, and the last to one year of active imprisonment.
The defendants faced multiple charges, including participation in threatening and extortion, participation in publishing and broadcasting false claims, and participation in defamation and threats. Additionally, they were charged with insulting a constitutional body of the Kingdom and insulting an organized body.
These verdicts come amidst ongoing efforts to combat cybercrimes and defamation, particularly those targeting institutions and individuals through social media platforms.
