The Digital Content Observatory has warned of the noticeable rise in cyber fraud cases across digital platforms, noting that this phenomenon has become a real threat to users’ security in the digital space.
The Observatory explained that fraudulent methods are continuously increasing and diversifying, encompassing social media platforms, messaging apps, e-commerce sites, and even email.
It pointed out that the most common types of fraud recorded include fake links aimed at stealing personal data, fraudulent offers claiming unrealistic financial profits, as well as identity theft to access sensitive information or extort victims.
The Observatory clarified that young people, in particular, are more vulnerable to these risks due to a lack of awareness of the methods used by fraudsters. It added that some individuals exploit the lack of sufficient knowledge about digital space laws to target their victims through various schemes.
The Digital Content Observatory called for the need to enhance digital literacy across all segments of society, especially through raising awareness about the dangers of engaging with suspicious content and adopting responsible digital behavior. It also emphasized the importance of the role of relevant authorities in combating this phenomenon, including updating monitoring and follow-up mechanisms to reduce the spread of cybercrimes.
The Observatory confirmed that cooperation between the public and private sectors has become essential to combat cyber fraud, with the need to involve technology companies and internet service providers in monitoring and reporting efforts to ensure a safe digital environment that protects users from electronic threats.
