The Justice, Legislation, and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives approved, last night, the Criminal Procedure Law Project No. 03.23 in its entirety during a session attended by Minister of Justice Abdellatif Wahbi, which lasted for nearly 11 continuous hours.
The project was supported by 18 parliamentarians, with 7 opposing votes, while no abstentions were recorded.
The discussion on the project witnessed a significant number of amendments, totaling 1,384 amendments presented by various parliamentary groups and blocs, indicating broad engagement with the contents of the legal text.
The Justice and Development parliamentary group was at the forefront with 435 amendments, followed by the Socialist bloc – the opposition from the Ittihadi Union – with 308 amendments, then the Progress and Socialism group with 167 amendments, and the Movement group with 186 amendments. Meanwhile, the majority groups collectively presented 155 amendments.
Independent female parliamentarians also participated in the amendment process, with Fatima Tamani proposing 55 amendments, Shafika Lcharaf with 42, Nabila Mounib with 24, and Reem Shabat with a total of 12 amendments.
These figures reflect the extent of parliamentary involvement in reviewing the bill, which is considered one of the most significant legislative texts regulating Morocco’s criminal justice system.
