On Monday, Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit welcomed the Mauritanian Minister Delegate to the Ministry of Interior, Yakoub Ould Salim Fall, who is visiting Morocco at the head of a high-level delegation for a working visit from May 4 to 8.
This visit comes within the framework of strengthening cooperative relations and partnerships between Rabat and Nouakchott, particularly in the areas of governance and decentralization. The two sides held extensive talks during which the Moroccan experience in advanced regionalization was reviewed, and discussions were held on the prospects of enhancing decentralized cooperation between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, the meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the strategic nature of Moroccan-Mauritanian relations, which are based on solidarity and South-South cooperation, aiming to address shared development challenges.
Both sides emphasized the need to enhance partnerships between Moroccan and Mauritanian local authorities by exchanging expertise in key areas such as solid waste management, local service delivery, urban development, territorial planning, and digital transformation.
According to the same source, decentralized cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania has made notable progress in recent years, reflected in joint projects between local authorities from both countries, laying the groundwork for a promising strategic partnership model in the region.
