Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred will appear before the French justice system once more for the appeal trial in the sexual assault case dating back to 2016.
Convicted in February 2023 to six years of firm imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court, he was released after one month of detention, having been granted provisional release under judicial supervision.
According to French lawyer Me Hafida El Ali, Saad Lamjarred will appear in appeal before the Créteil Assize Court from Monday, June 2nd to Friday, June 6th, 2025.
This hearing is expected to reignite interest in a high-profile media and legal case that is nearly eight years old.
The trial will see the presence of Saad Lamjarred and the plaintiff, Laura Prioul, in a crucial judicial stage that could either uphold or overturn the initial conviction. The artist continues to deny the allegations and maintain his innocence.
The case has been marked by numerous twists and turns: provisional detentions, releases, hearing postponements, and extensive international media coverage due to the singer’s fame in the Arab world.
Despite the legal storm, Saad Lamjarred has maintained a prolific artistic career. He has released several successful hits, performed concerts in Gulf countries, and enriched his repertoire with elements of Moroccan musical heritage, notably Amazigh influences, strengthening his popularity in Morocco and beyond.
As a reminder, following his conviction in February 2023, the Paris Assize Court deemed the rape allegations reported by Laura Prioul to be consistently and credibly described. Shortly after the verdict, Lamjarred filed an appeal and was granted provisional release.
Furthermore, the singer is also referred to the Var Assize Court for a similar case that occurred in Saint-Tropez in 2018, further fueling the controversy.
Lamjarred has always denied assaulting Laura Prioul. Since the opening of the investigation, the case has seen many developments: provisional arrests, conditional releases, hearing postponements – a legal complexity that explains why the Court of Appeal is only now taking up the case.
Despite this lengthy legal process, Saad Lamjarred has remained active on the music scene. In recent years, he has released several successful hits accumulating millions of views and has performed at major events, particularly in Gulf countries, all while remaining under the supervision of the French justice system.
