Fes, Morocco – The 21st edition of the National Educational Film Festival kicked off on Monday, April 28, 2025, in the city of Fes. The festival is organized by the Regional Academy of Education and Training for the Fez-Meknes region, in coordination with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports. This educational and artistic event is held under the slogan “Educational Film Serving Quality Education” and will run for three days, concluding on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
The official opening of the festival took place at the Moulay Slimane amphitheater, where Mr. Abdelmoumen Taleb, the Director-General for the Organization of School Life at the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, delivered a speech on the occasion. He was accompanied by Mr. Fouad Arwadi, the Director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training for the Fez-Meknes region, and a number of officials and stakeholders in education and cinema.
This edition comes within the framework of activating the reference framework for thematic networking activities between the Regional Academies of Education and Training in the cultural, creative, and artistic fields, and in line with the objectives of the 2022-2026 Roadmap for Reform. This roadmap aims to achieve three strategic goals, including promoting openness and citizenship and doubling the percentage of students benefiting from extracurricular activities, by making the school a space for openness where learners acquire national and universal values, a sense of citizenship, curiosity, and self-confidence, in addition to stimulating their talent and excellence.
In the context of consolidating the educational dimension of the festival, a program rich in cultural, artistic, and creative activities has been prepared. The film ” شنو هي المسيرة؟ ” (What is the Green March?) was screened at the opening ceremony. This film, produced by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center, explores the journey and context of the victorious Green March.
This edition will witness a strong competition between approximately 24 educational films representing various Regional Academies of Education and Training across the Kingdom, vying for one of the festival’s awards.
The festival’s program also includes an international symposium on the theme of “The Intersections of Cinema and Education,” as well as training workshops in the art of film directing and screenwriting techniques, in addition to masterclasses and meetings with directors to discuss a selection of the films being screened.
The festival will also honor a number of cultural and artistic figures and witness the signing of a document establishing an international observatory for educational film.
Keen to bring the films closer to the public, the participating films will be screened outdoors in Place Bou Jeloud. The opening ceremony was broadcast live, and the closing ceremony on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 6:00 PM, will also be broadcast live.
In parallel with the festival’s activities, a selection of educational films will be screened in educational institutions coinciding with the festival days.
