Upon the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, General Mohamed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, is conducting an official working visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia from April 23 to 26.
According to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, this visit included a meeting between General Mohamed Berrid and his Ethiopian counterpart, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Chief of the General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces. During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen military cooperation and addressed a range of topics of mutual interest.
Both military leaders expressed satisfaction with the new momentum in military relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Ethiopia. They reviewed a draft comprehensive agreement covering various aspects of bilateral military cooperation, which is expected to be signed in the near future.
General Berrid also met with Ethiopia’s State Minister of Defense, Marta Luwiji, in the presence of Nezha Alaoui M’Hammdi, Ambassador of His Majesty the King to Addis Ababa. Discussions focused on broadening and deepening military cooperation across new sectors.
The visit further included inspection tours of several military facilities and institutions belonging to the Ethiopian National Defense Forces, including the Cybersecurity Directorate, the Artificial Intelligence Institute, the Bishoftu Air Base, and an ammunition manufacturing plant.
This visit falls within the framework of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and supporting efforts for enhanced security and military cooperation across the African continent.
