Rabat: The Ministry of the Interior affirmed today, Thursday, that the progress of works related to Morocco’s hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals is proceeding according to specifications and that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure their completion within the set deadlines.
This reassurance followed an extensive evaluation meeting held at the ministry’s headquarters, attended by representatives from various relevant ministries and sectors, to review the latest developments in the preparations underway in the six host cities of the tournament: Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Fez, Marrakech, and Tetouan.
A statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior explained that the meeting, chaired by the Minister of the Interior and attended by the Delegate Minister in charge of the Budget, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the Walis (Governors) of the aforementioned cities, the presidents of the Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes, Marrakech-Safi, and Souss-Massa regions, as well as the presidents of the Communal Councils, reviewed the progress made in the construction, renovation, and upgrading works taking place in these cities.
Also present at the meeting, through their Director Generals, were representatives from Royal Air Maroc, Autoroutes du Maroc (Moroccan Highways Company), Casablanca Finance City, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), the National Railway Office (ONCF), the National Airports Office (ONDA), the National Company for the Realization and Management of Sports Facilities (SONARGES), and the National Agency for Public Facilities (ANEP).
The Ministry of the Interior’s statement emphasized that the pace of work is in line with the specifications and that all necessary measures are being taken to guarantee their completion on time. The statement recalled that the six concerned cities have launched complementary programs aimed at improving urban mobility, rehabilitating infrastructure, redeveloping the surroundings of stadiums and visitor reception sites, as well as organizing events to ensure the best reception conditions for delegations and supporters.
The ministry indicated that a total of 120 projects are currently underway in the six host cities of AFCON 2025, assuring that all arrangements have been made to complete them before next December, the start date of the continental competition. The statement concluded by affirming that “the organization of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen the Kingdom’s international visibility, as well as an occasion to enhance the economic, cultural, and tourism assets of Morocco and a catalyst for the local economy.”
