Bamako – The Council of Heads of State of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) strongly condemned what it described as “hostile action” by the Algerian regime, involving the destruction of a drone belonging to the Malian Armed Forces and Security.
In a press release issued on Sunday, April 6, 2025, the Council clarified that the drone, bearing registration number TZ-98D, was destroyed during the night of March 31 to April 1, 2025, in the Tessalit area of the Abeïbara district in the Kidal region.
The Council considered this action as “aggression targeting all member states of the Alliance of Sahel States,” noting that the destruction of the drone prevented the neutralization of a terrorist group that was planning to carry out terrorist acts against the Alliance.
Accusations Against the “Algerian Regime”
The Council of Heads of State of the Alliance of Sahel States accused the “Algerian regime” of “adopting a malicious method to promote terrorism and contribute to destabilizing the region,” considering this action “a violation of international law and a serious setback in the historical and fraternal relations between the peoples of the Alliance and the Algerian people.”
Summoning Ambassadors for Consultation
In an escalatory move, the Council decided to summon the ambassadors of the Alliance member states accredited in Algeria for consultation and called on the “Algerian regime” to “adopt a constructive approach that contributes to strengthening peace and security in the region.”
Confirmation of Security Mobilization
In conclusion, the Council of Heads of State of the Alliance of Sahel States assured the peoples of the region that the defense and security forces are in a state of full mobilization to ensure their security and defend the unity and integrity of the confederal space.
The statement was signed by General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transitional Phase, President of the Republic of Mali, and President of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
