In a new international scandal revealing the bitter living reality, the Algerian capital has been ranked third as the worst city to live in worldwide, according to the “Global Liveability Index 2024” report issued by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), part of the British Economist Group.
The report, which assessed 173 cities around the world, placed Algiers in the 171st position out of 173, ahead of only Tripoli and Damascus, due to low indicators of stability, health, education, infrastructure, and culture.
The shocking ranking exposes the falsity of official slogans about “New Algeria” and reflects the failure of social and economic policies that have driven Algerian citizens to the brink of despair, amid the daily deterioration in basic services and the lack of a decent living horizon.
The capital of gas and oil, instead of competing for top global rankings, is sinking to the bottom with cities of war and chaos.
How long will the Algerian people remain hostage to empty slogans and failed management? When will the official propaganda machine stop and face the bitter truths?
