Residents of Ait Sghroushen Protest Against Marginalization and Exclusion in a March Toward the Fès-Meknès Region Headquarters

Residents from the villages of “Bouchraflet,” “Al-Khazana,” “Al-Qalaa,” “Ain Kanan,” and “Al-Ithnayn,” located in the Ait Sghroushen commune of the Tahlala district in the Taza province, organized a protest march to denounce the marginalization and exclusion they have endured, amidst deteriorating living conditions and the absence of development projects aimed at improving their lives.

The march began on Wednesday, with protesters walking over five kilometers toward the Fès-Meknès Region headquarters, chanting slogans condemning the poor state of infrastructure and the lack of essential services such as roads, access to clean water, education, and healthcare. Additionally, the protest highlighted the growing issues of unemployment, poverty, and the lack of opportunities for a decent livelihood.

The march saw strong participation from local residents, who expressed their frustration with the ongoing neglect of their region despite repeated calls to the responsible authorities for improvements. Protesters emphasized their isolation, which prevents them from benefiting from the developmental projects enjoyed by other areas in the province.

Local authorities and Royal Gendarmerie officers intervened when the march reached a certain point, attempting multiple times to open dialogue with the protesters. After detailed discussions, both parties agreed to schedule a future meeting between community representatives and local officials to discuss their demands and find practical solutions to end their suffering.

The protesters called for the intervention of the competent authorities, particularly the Taza province governor, to develop a clear plan for the region’s development that would ensure a decent living for the people of Ait Sghroushen. They expressed hope that the upcoming negotiations would lead to tangible measures that address their needs and alleviate their daily hardships.
