The Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, revealed that the Municipality of Taza is continuing the implementation of the second phase of the urban development program to address the deterioration of road infrastructure in several streets and alleys. This initiative is part of a multi-stakeholder partnership with a total budget of 450 million dirhams.
In response to a written question from MP Fadwa Mohssine El Hayani of the Haraki group regarding the quality of works within the urban area, Laftit explained that the program includes developmental projects aimed at upgrading the road network, enhancing sports and cultural infrastructure, and improving under-equipped neighborhoods.
The minister emphasized that this program seeks to enhance the urban fabric and address deficiencies in social and sports facilities. It will also be supported by other major projects, including the construction of a wastewater treatment and reuse plant with a budget of 740 million dirhams, a flood protection project costing 50 million dirhams, and the establishment of a modern train station with an investment of 47 million dirhams.
Laftit noted that the execution of such large-scale projects requires preparatory interventions, including upgrading drinking water, sanitation, lighting, and telecommunication networks, which may temporarily impact traffic flow. However, he assured that the municipality is conducting periodic maintenance to address any safety hazards based on available resources.
Regarding the quality of works, the minister stressed that they comply with the provisions of the public procurement law, which defines implementation standards in accordance with a detailed contract. The projects are supervised by specialized study offices and laboratories, while technical committees intervene whenever irregularities are detected. He also confirmed that any temporary disruptions caused by the works will be fully resolved upon the completion of the projects.
