Bressuire: Moroccans Harassed by Polisario Elements in a Disturbing Phenomenon

For several months, a tense atmosphere has prevailed in Bressuire, a city home to a large Moroccan community, particularly from the Moroccan Sahara. Reports have emerged of Moroccans being harassed, provoked, and even intimidated by individuals linked to the Polisario. This situation, which is not isolated in France, raises numerous questions: How are these individuals able to settle and act with impunity? Why is their presence increasing, especially in light of previous attacks on Moroccans in cities like Nantes and Paris?

According to observers, Bressuire appears to have become a strategic hub for some Polisario activists, who find fertile ground to organize their activities. Under the guise of a political agenda, some of these activists exert psychological and social pressure on Moroccans living and working in the area. Workplaces have turned into spaces of harassment, where Moroccans from the Sahara are targeted due to their attachment to their homeland. This hostility goes beyond mere differences of opinion, sometimes taking the form of intimidation aimed at creating a climate of fear and suppressing any pro-Moroccan expression.

These tensions are not new. In Nantes and at Place de la République in Paris, violent clashes have erupted in recent years between Polisario elements and Moroccans. These incidents have shown that these individuals do not settle for a discreet presence; they seek confrontation and do not hesitate to use violence to impose their political views. In Mantes-la-Jolie, Moroccans have already identified the networks facilitating the settlement of these elements in France. The question now arises for Bressuire: Who is facilitating their arrival? Who benefits from their presence? Why is their number increasing day by day?

In the face of this alarming situation, another question arises: Have Moroccans been vigilant and active enough to counter this influence? Unlike other cities where the Moroccan community is well-organized and knows how to respond to provocations, Bressuire seems to be a place where the Polisario is gaining confidence, possibly due to a lack of coordination and structured response from Moroccans. It has become urgent to strengthen coordination among Moroccan stakeholders, mobilize associations, and alert French local and national authorities to this concerning rise in tensions.

Beyond the responsibility of Moroccans to protect their community, the French government must also take responsibility. France, as a country governed by the rule of law, cannot tolerate Moroccan or Franco-Moroccan citizens being subjected to harassment and violence on its soil. Authorities must increase surveillance of these groups, especially when they adopt aggressive behaviors and wear paramilitary uniforms, as observed during incidents at Place de la République. The presence of such elements poses a danger not only to Moroccans but also to French public order.

The situation in Bressuire serves as a wake-up call that should prompt Moroccans in France to organize, denounce these actions, and demand appropriate protection. Inaction is not an option in the face of elements that, under the cover of political demands, create a climate of fear and violence. Moroccans in Bressuire and elsewhere must ask themselves: Are we organized enough to defend our rights and expose these practices? The answer to this question will determine the future of the Moroccan community in the face of these repeated provocations.
