A tragic incident unfolded in the Sidi Al-Hadi neighborhood of the Zouagha district in Fez when a massive fire erupted inside a residential apartment. The blaze, which was triggered by the explosion of a small gas cylinder, resulted in the death of an elderly woman in her seventies who lived alone. Local sources reported that the intense flames quickly engulfed the entire apartment, causing severe material damage.
This incident, which occurred last week, marks the second fatal residential fire in a short period. It follows a previous tragedy in the Ben Souda neighborhood, where a man in his forties died from suffocation after an electrical charger exploded and ignited a fire.
Emergency services responded promptly to the scene. The fire brigade managed to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjacent units. The victim’s body was later recovered and transported to the morgue at Al-Ghasani Hospital for further legal procedures. Meanwhile, security forces from District 18 in the Wifaq neighborhood initiated preliminary investigations and documented the incident with an official report.
These events highlight the significant risks associated with explosive household devices particularly gas cylinders and electric chargers and underscore the urgent need for improved safety measures in residential areas to prevent such catastrophic incidents in the future.
