Mohamed Ouzzine, Secretary-General of the Popular Movement Party, has strongly criticized certain practices surrounding the distribution of social aid during the holy month of Ramadan. He called on Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit to put an end to the exploitation of citizens’ poverty under the guise of charity for electoral gains.
In a written question addressed to the minister, Ouzzine expressed concern over the use of these aid initiatives by some political entities, alleging that food baskets and supplies are being distributed in a manner that clearly carries electoral motives. He stressed that these initiatives, which should be purely social in nature, go beyond their humanitarian purpose when recipients’ names and phone numbers are registered, raising suspicions about the true intentions behind them.
The party leader pointed out that such practices constitute an exploitation of vulnerable groups, particularly given the difficult economic and social conditions facing citizens. He added that genuine charitable work should not be used as a tool to recruit members by forcing them to fill out forms and join political organizations in exchange for receiving assistance.
Ouzzine argued that these actions tarnish the image of political work and undermine its credibility, as citizens are drawn in based on their needs rather than being convinced by clear political programs. Even more concerning, he noted, is the misuse of beneficiaries’ personal data, which constitutes a blatant violation of laws protecting their rights.
In this regard, Ouzzine questioned what measures the Interior Ministry intends to take to prevent the misuse of citizens’ personal data for other purposes and what legal actions could be pursued if such violations are detected.
