Parliament Session: Bouano Warns of Strike Law’s Consequences and States: “We Don’t Betray Our Country, You Didn’t Follow the King’s Instructions” (Video)

Abdullah Bouano, a member of parliament from the Justice and Development Party, urged the government to act with responsibility and prudence when addressing issues that affect the Moroccan people, especially those related to their fundamental rights.

During his remarks on the vote in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, regarding the organizational law for strikes, Bouano emphasized that the government must seriously listen to the demands of trade unions and handle labor and social issues with a spirit of dialogue and respect. He added that relying on a numerical majority to pass laws would not be an effective solution to address the current challenges faced by the Moroccan people.

Commenting on the strike called by trade unions for today and tomorrow (Thursday), Bouano questioned: “How can people not strike at a time when prices are rising, unemployment is increasing, and their basic rights and freedoms are being undermined, not to mention the daily livelihoods of citizens?”

Statements from various trade unions, such as the Moroccan Trade Union Federation (UMT), the National Union of Labor (UNT), and the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT), have confirmed that the new version of the organizational strike law contradicts the Moroccan Constitution and restricts the right to peaceful protest and strikes. This has raised concerns about the infringement on workers’ rights in the country.

Amid this ongoing debate, discussions continue regarding the law’s implications on civil liberties and the future of government-union relations in Morocco.
