“Bus Rollover in Asilah Exposes Urban Transport Crisis… Could Faulty Alsa Buses Cause New Disasters?”

This Monday morning, Asilah witnessed a bus rollover accident involving an urban transport vehicle operated by “Alsa,” the company responsible for managing public transportation in Tangier and Asilah. The accident resulted in 11 people sustaining varying degrees of injuries. The bus, which was servicing the route connecting Castilia in central Tangier to Asilah, veered off course near the Asilah train station, possibly due to the driver’s loss of control, causing the bus to overturn beside the road.

According to initial reports, all injured passengers received first aid treatment at the emergency department and were discharged after it was confirmed they did not have serious injuries, except for two passengers. One of them, a woman, suffered injuries to her shoulder and head from flying glass shards. The incident caused panic among the passengers, most of whom were women and students. A number of young people assisted the passengers in evacuating the bus after it had come to a halt.

Civil protection services arrived at the scene promptly and transported the injured via ambulances to the local hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, local police have launched an investigation, under the direction of the public prosecutor in Asilah, to determine the circumstances and cause of the accident.

This incident adds to a series of accidents involving Alsa’s urban buses in recent months, raising widespread concerns about the mechanical condition of some buses used for urban transport in Tangier and Asilah. There are increasing calls for stricter monitoring of the public transport fleet to ensure passenger safety and prevent future disasters.
