In the public session for the monthly oral questions held yesterday, Monday, January 27, 2025, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch emphasized the pivotal role that tourism will play in building the Morocco of the future and achieving sustainable development across the kingdom. In a speech full of confidence and optimism, Akhannouch highlighted the ongoing efforts of the government to strengthen the tourism sector, making it a cornerstone of national economic development and promoting social justice.
Akhannouch stated that the country has now shifted to “maximum speed” in its developmental path, stressing that Morocco is steadily moving toward economic progress and enhancing social justice. He added that the government is working diligently, in coordination with all local and international stakeholders, to prepare the kingdom for major global events in the near future, which will showcase Morocco’s admirable international image.
The Prime Minister pointed out that developing the tourism sector is an “essential condition” for enhancing community and economic development in both urban and rural areas. This includes improving tourism infrastructure such as roads, facilities, and services, which in turn contributes to enhancing the quality of life across different regions of Morocco.
Akhannouch further explained that the government is implementing a comprehensive developmental vision for Morocco by 2030, with tourism at the heart of this vision. The aim is to create new opportunities for balanced and parallel development across the kingdom. He added that building the “Morocco of the future” requires collective effort and collaboration to enhance and improve all aspects of Moroccan tourism.
The Prime Minister praised the exceptional achievements of the tourism sector in recent years, noting that Morocco attracted more than 17 million tourists in 2024, a historic and unprecedented figure. He also referred to a report by the International Football Federation (FIFA), which gave Morocco an outstanding evaluation in preparation for hosting the 2030 World Cup, reflecting the country’s excellence and its ability to host major global events.
In conclusion, Akhannouch stressed that the government’s approach to tourism development is not a “classical approach,” but rather a “comprehensive and multidimensional approach” that intersects with other governmental policies. He affirmed that Morocco is on the right path to strengthening its position as a leading international tourist destination.
