Taxi Drivers’ Union and Road Transport League File Complaint Over Security Issues at Al-Ghassani Hospital in Fes

In a move aimed at improving working conditions and ensuring safe and adequate transportation services for citizens, the Popular Union for Small Taxi Drivers in Fes and the Moroccan Road Transport League for Small Taxi Drivers in the city have filed an official complaint to the Regional Director of Health for the Fes-Meknes region. The complaint, which was received by “Fes News,” was filed in response to violations committed by some private security personnel at Al-Ghassani Hospital in Fes, which have significantly disrupted operations around the emergency department.

The complaint pertains to illegal practices carried out by some private security guards at the hospital, where taxi drivers report being forced to pay bribes in order to enter the emergency department. This behavior is a clear violation of the regulatory laws governing the sector. The drivers also allege suspicious collusion between certain security guards and some taxi drivers, allowing some to enter without legal justification, while others are arbitrarily prevented from doing so. This situation raises several questions about the existence of unprofessional relationships exploited for certain parties’ benefit, negatively affecting the quality of service provided.

Additionally, these practices have resulted in an extended distance of approximately 1000 meters between the emergency department and the nearest taxi station. This distance increases the hardship for patients and their families, who are forced to search for transportation far from the emergency unit. This delay in reaching medical assistance directly impacts response times and deprives patients of fair access to transport services.

In the complaint, the union and the league called on the Regional Director of Health to conduct a thorough investigation into these violations and take the necessary measures to stop these practices and ensure the enforcement of the laws in this area. They also emphasized the need for a temporary taxi station in front of the emergency department during the nighttime from 8 PM to 6 AM, with clear regulatory signs to facilitate taxi movement and alleviate the patients’ suffering.

As part of these demands, the union called for enhanced administrative oversight of the private security guards at the hospital to ensure compliance with professional standards and respect for the rights of both patients and drivers. They highlighted the importance of maintaining the dignity of all parties involved and creating a fair and secure work environment.

This complaint is part of the union’s and league’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of health and transport services in the city, benefiting the public interest and enhancing the services provided to citizens.
