As part of their ongoing struggle to improve the working and financial conditions of employees in the local governance and delegated management sectors, a union coordination composed of the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT), Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT), General Union of Workers of Morocco (UGTM), and the Democratic Federation of Labor (FDT) issued a statement on January 23, 2025, outlining their upcoming protest actions against the marginalization of sector employees.
The statement highlighted that the current situation of territorial collective employees and those in delegated management has become unbearable due to repeated delays in sectoral dialogue sessions, which, according to the unions, reflects the lack of seriousness on the part of officials in addressing their just demands. The unions pointed out that the material and professional conditions of workers in this sector remain subpar compared to other public sectors, further exacerbating their hardships and demonstrating a lack of motivation and appreciation despite the significant work they provide.
Among the key actions announced by the union coordination are a sit-in by the national offices in front of the Directorate General of Local Authorities in Rabat on January 30, 2025, followed by a nationwide strike for 24 hours, with protests outside regional offices. Additionally, the coordination plans to hold a virtual communication session with sector workers on Saturday, January 25, to explain the situation and outline future plans for action.
