A joint security operation between the National Police and Customs at the Karkarat border crossing, south of Dakhla, has thwarted an international cocaine smuggling attempt, seizing 37 kilograms and 683 grams of the drug.
The operation, which took place on Wednesday, January 22, was the result of rigorous border monitoring and thorough inspection procedures that included the use of trained police dogs. The drugs were carefully hidden inside the engines of two international freight trucks bearing Moroccan license plates, which had arrived from a country in sub-Saharan Africa. The drivers, aged 24 and 47, were also apprehended.
In the context of the investigations, a preliminary inquiry has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case and to identify all individuals involved. Authorities are also working to track the extent of these criminal activities both within Morocco and on a regional and international level.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by security services at the Karkarat border crossing to combat international drug trafficking and psychoactive substances, as well as to address all forms of cross-border crime.
