Extradited from Morocco, the Leader of the “Yoda” Gang Arrives in France

The alleged leader of the “Yoda” clan, one of the main drug trafficking networks in Marseille responsible for a bloody gang war, has been extradited from Morocco and “has arrived on French soil,” announced Gérald Darmanin on Wednesday.

“This is a great success for the police and the French justice system in the area of drug trafficking, and I would like to thank the Moroccan authorities who acted as a brotherly and friendly country” in extraditing Félix Bingui, added the Minister of Justice during an interview with BFMTV.

Félix Bingui, 34, was arrested in Morocco last March.

“He is responsible, according to us obviously, for large-scale drug trafficking, attempted homicides in an organized group, preparation of numerous crimes and offenses, and money laundering related to this drug trafficking,” Darmanin stated.

Bingui, who has spent his entire “career” in drug trafficking in Marseille, regularly traveled back and forth to Morocco until the outbreak of a “war” with the rival “DZ Mafia” gang in February 2023, after which he no longer left the North African country.

This territorial war for control over lucrative drug dealing points—sometimes generating up to €80,000 in daily revenue—between the “Yoda” clan and the “DZ Mafia” group has resulted in bloodshed in France’s second-largest city.

In 2023, 49 deaths related to drug trafficking were recorded in Marseille, including seven minors, marking a grim record. In 2024, the number of these drug-related homicides significantly decreased to 24.
