In the public session of the Moroccan Parliament dedicated to oral questions, Deputy Rima Shabate raised concerns about the ongoing crisis of rising prices, which has become a significant issue for Moroccan citizens. In her speech, the deputy referenced a famous saying by Umar ibn al-Khattab: “Fight inflation by self-sufficiency,” describing it as the best solution to address this major challenge facing the Moroccan people.
chabate highlighted the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities such as meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits, and oils, which are having a direct impact on the daily lives of citizens. She expressed her dissatisfaction with the lack of effective intervention from the government in addressing this problem, pointing out that prices have become unbearable, and citizens can no longer cope with the continuous increases. She also noted that the government’s responses are limited to justifications related to drought and inflation, which are no longer acceptable to the public.
Moreover, chabate emphasized that the issue extends beyond rising prices, as many citizens are struggling to meet basic needs, such as securing housing or purchasing a car. The primary concern for most citizens has become ensuring their daily food needs in the face of ongoing inflation and deteriorating purchasing power.
The deputy stressed the need for the government to take responsibility for this crisis, rather than focusing on solutions that do not address the citizens’ needs. She pointed out that the middle class has been severely affected, while many citizens are now part of the poor and vulnerable classes. chabate also argued that the government should prioritize economic and social issues, such as creating job opportunities and reducing unemployment, instead of engaging in non-essential or trivial matters.
In conclusion, chabate urged the government to respect the intelligence of the Moroccan people and provide real solutions to their problems, rather than continuing to make promises that lead to no tangible progress. She warned that ignoring these issues will only worsen the social situation and negatively impact the country’s stability.
