Fes Court of Appeals Reviews Case of Gendarme Accused of Bribery and Drug Possession

A first-class gendarme has been referred to the Court of Appeals in Fes to examine charges of bribery and drug possession. The gendarme had previously been sentenced to three years in prison and fined 40,000 dirhams. The court also ordered the confiscation of an amount of 699,400 dirhams for the benefit of the public treasury, while acquitting the defendant of charges related to drug trafficking and transportation. The accused, who works at the Royal Gendarmerie in Taous, claimed that the money in his possession was derived from side business activities, but he failed to provide concrete evidence to support this claim.

The appellate session is scheduled to take place at the end of January to continue reviewing the case. These developments come as part of judicial efforts to combat corruption within the ranks of the gendarmerie, as this case represents a series of investigations aimed at enhancing transparency and integrity within Morocco’s security forces.
