Moroccan Government Highlights Key Priorities in Housing and Pension Reforms

In a press conference held by Mustafa Baitas, the official spokesperson for the government, following the weekly cabinet meeting, several critical issues were highlighted as priorities for the current phase of governmental action. Baitas reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing major projects that directly impact citizens’ lives.

Baitas announced significant advancements in the housing sector, emphasizing the positive outcomes of the direct housing support program. Approximately 1,100 citizens have applied to benefit from the program, with 35 individuals already receiving financial support, including 26% of young expatriates. He noted that the program has stimulated the construction industry, as cement sales rose by 10%, housing loans increased by 2%, and loans to property developers grew by 7%.

He also highlighted that the annual production of housing units targeted at social classes and the middle class reached around 113,000 units, exceeding the 2024 target of 75,000 units. This achievement reflects a completion rate of 125%, underscoring the program’s effectiveness in meeting the needs of the target groups.

Addressing the pension system, Baitas referred to a report from the Court of Auditors that urged the government to expedite reform of the pension system. He acknowledged the significant challenges facing pension funds and stressed the urgent need for action. The government is preparing to announce a comprehensive reform plan, with the Minister of Finance committed to finding collaborative solutions with various stakeholders.

Baitas emphasized that pension reform is a top government priority and that the administration’s response to this pressing issue will be crucial in ensuring the system’s sustainability and achieving social equity for all groups.

Throughout the press conference, Baitas reiterated the government’s determination to meet its developmental objectives across sectors. While substantial efforts continue in the housing sector, the focus is equally placed on implementing sustainable and equitable pension reforms, ensuring long-term benefits for Moroccan society.
