During a press conference held after the government council meeting, Mustafa Baitas, the official spokesperson for the Moroccan government, outlined the latest developments in efforts to promote and integrate the Amazigh language into public life. He emphasized the government’s strategic approach, guided by King Mohammed VI, to establish Amazigh as an official language and ensure its presence across various sectors.
Baitas highlighted the milestones achieved since King Mohammed VI’s historic Agadir Speech, which marked the beginning of recognizing Amazigh as an official language. He referenced the implementation of the organic law defining the mechanisms for this recognition and the significant steps taken, including the Royal decision to designate the Amazigh New Year as a national holiday, underscoring the state’s commitment to preserving this cultural heritage.
The spokesperson revealed the deployment of 464 Amazigh-speaking staff across different dialects, with 69 dedicated to improving public reception services in government offices. Furthermore, Amazigh has been incorporated into over 3,000 public signs and notifications nationwide, fostering greater awareness and use of the language in everyday life.
In the education sector, Baitas announced the launch of a digital learning platform to facilitate remote Amazigh language education. Additionally, the number of teaching positions dedicated to Amazigh language instruction saw a significant increase, rising from 200 to 600 this year, as part of the broader effort to integrate Amazigh into Morocco’s educational system.
Baitas underscored the importance of cultural activities in promoting Amazigh heritage, highlighting the role of the Ministry of Youth and Culture in organizing diverse cultural events. These initiatives aim to celebrate and preserve Amazigh traditions, reflecting the government’s unwavering support for this aspect of Moroccan identity.
Concluding his statements, Baitas reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing the formal integration of Amazigh into all areas of public life. This commitment aligns with the directives of King Mohammed VI and Morocco’s vision of unity within cultural diversity.
