Key Development Initiatives Discussed in Fes-Meknes Regional Council Extraordinary Session

In a significant step towards fostering comprehensive development in the Fes-Meknes region, the extraordinary session of the Regional Council was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The session was attended by Mr. Moaaz Al-Jamii, the Wali of the Fes-Meknes region, the Secretary-General of the region, and the President of the Regional Council, along with several council members. The session, which witnessed a strong turnout, discussed several key issues aimed at improving infrastructure and services across various strategic sectors.

The agenda covered seven main points, carefully structured to ensure their interconnectedness in achieving the region’s developmental goals. The first three points focused on the establishment of the Regional Services Company, which will work on improving service delivery across the region, with a particular emphasis on the city of Fes during the first phase, due to time constraints related to the upcoming milestones in 2025 and 2030. The President of the Council emphasized that this company would be a cornerstone for enhancing the quality of life in the region by developing integrated work mechanisms and ensuring high-level services for citizens.

Regarding education, the session focused on amending the pre-school education agreement and expanding it to include both primary and secondary education, as part of an effective response to the challenges facing these sectors. The need to address the severe shortage in educational facilities and human resources was stressed, to ensure the delivery of quality education to all demographic groups, including the improvement of conditions in public schools.

In the sports sector, the session reviewed amendments to the agreement for the creation of the multi-sports hall, previously known as the “Arena”, which will be developed into a high-standard facility capable of hosting between 6,000 to 7,000 spectators. This venue will serve as a significant addition to the region’s sports infrastructure, hosting numerous local and international sports events, while also providing a multi-purpose space for cultural and sporting activities.

Additionally, modifications related to the creation of a new conference hall were discussed. The agreement for this project will see changes in its architectural design and financial structure, ensuring that the hall meets the needs of Fes and the broader Fes-Meknes region in the future. The President of the Council noted that this project would positively impact the city’s standing as an economic and cultural hub, both nationally and internationally.

During his remarks, the President of the Council stressed the importance of these projects in achieving sustainable development and improving the region’s service delivery. He assured that the Council would continue to work diligently to ensure the timely completion of these projects, aligned with a clear strategic vision towards 2025 and 2030, through collaboration between local and national stakeholders.
