Fraud Case Shakes Reconstruction Efforts in Al Haouz

Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit has revealed serious developments in the reconstruction file for areas affected by the Al Haouz earthquake, announcing the arrest of one contractor and the issuance of search warrants for two others on charges of defrauding beneficiaries of reconstruction aid.

Laftit, responding to a written question from parliamentary representative Aisha Al-Kat of the Justice and Development Party, explained that authorities investigated a contractor residing in Douar Bouzok in the Tidili Mesfioua commune of Al Haouz province. The investigations led to the arrest of this contractor on charges of fraud and deception against earthquake victims.

The minister added that two other contractors involved in similar cases have been placed under investigation by the competent authorities. Reports indicate that these contractors received money from victims without fulfilling their obligations to build promised housing.

Laftit emphasized that the government is determined to implement reconstruction operations within a framework of strict adherence to laws, protecting the project from any attempts at manipulation or exploitation. Legal measures have been taken against those involved in these cases, with investigations continuing to uncover any other instances of fraud.

These developments highlight the challenges facing reconstruction efforts in earthquake-affected areas and underscore the importance of strict oversight and careful monitoring to ensure aid reaches its intended recipients and reconstruction projects are implemented with integrity and transparency.
