Retired University Professor Dies in House Fire in Fez

A tragic incident occurred in the city of Fez on the afternoon of Thursday, January 2, 2025, when a retired university professor lost his life in a fire that broke out in his home in the Saada 1 neighborhood.

Civil Protection services received a report at exactly 15:24 about a fire in a house located opposite “La Résidence 1” school. Immediately, firefighting and rescue teams rushed to the scene to control the flames and extinguish the fire.

The incident resulted in the death of the homeowner who lived alone. He was later identified as (M. K), 79 years old, born in 1946. The victim died due to suffocation from the thick smoke that filled the house.

The deceased had worked as a university professor before his retirement, dedicating his life to education and scientific research. His sudden passing left deep sorrow among his former colleagues and students.

The causes of the fire outbreak are not yet clear, as the relevant authorities continue their investigations to determine the circumstances of the incident. This unfortunate event has raised concerns among local residents about the safety of homes in the area, prompting local authorities to emphasize the need to take all necessary preventive measures to avoid such tragic incidents in the future.
