Health and Social Protection Minister Amine Tehrawy presented a detailed overview of developments in the national healthcare system and major ongoing projects and reforms during a parliamentary session on Tuesday, December 31.
The minister revealed that during 2023-2024, the ministry operationalized new healthcare facilities with a capacity exceeding 2,100 beds, including the University Hospital Center in Tangier (797 beds), the Regional Hospital Center in Kenitra (450 beds), and the Regional Hospital Center in Al Hoceima (250 beds).
Tehrawy announced the ongoing construction and reconstruction of 78 hospital facilities with an additional capacity of 11,468 beds at a total cost of 42 billion dirhams. He also highlighted ongoing projects including five university hospital centers in Agadir, Laayoune, Guelmim, Errachidia, and Beni Mellal.
Regarding human resources, the minister confirmed that the ministry has set an ambitious program aimed at increasing the ratio of healthcare professionals from 18 per 10,000 inhabitants in 2022 to 45 per 10,000 by 2030, with a budget exceeding 3 billion dirhams.
