Significant Snowfall Expected in Ifrane and Boulemane: Weather Alert Issued

The General Directorate of Meteorology has announced that the provinces of Ifrane and Boulemane, part of the Fez-Meknes region, will experience significant snowfall in the coming days, particularly in mountainous areas above 1,500 meters in elevation. According to forecasts, snow accumulation is expected to range between 10 and 20 centimeters, starting Saturday and continuing through Monday.

These areas, renowned for their natural beauty and mountainous terrain, are among Morocco’s top winter destinations. The anticipated snowfall will add a unique winter charm to Ifrane, often dubbed the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and Boulemane, known for its serene and picturesque landscapes.

The snowfall coincides with the New Year holiday season, which is likely to attract an increased number of visitors to these destinations. Temperatures in the region are also expected to drop significantly, potentially leading to icy conditions, particularly on mountain roads. Authorities have urged citizens and drivers to exercise caution while traveling and adhere to safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities to ensure public safety.

Additionally, the General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange-level weather alert, warning of heavier snowfall, with accumulations ranging from 20 to 40 centimeters. These conditions are expected to impact the provinces of Midelt, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Al Haouz, and Ouarzazate, placing these areas under exceptional weather conditions during the same period.
