The Fes Higher School of Applied Sciences hosted an international scientific symposium on the occasion of International Volunteer Day under the theme “Enriching Volunteering Contributes to Community Development.” The event focused on the importance of promoting volunteer values in Moroccan universities, considering them as platforms to encourage students to actively engage in society and develop their life skills.
In his presentation, Omar Bouslat, a lecturer at the Higher School of Teachers in Fes, emphasized that universities play a key role in preparing young people to be main players in society. He pointed out that volunteer work helps students develop their skills and take on responsibility. He also noted that university clubs play a crucial role in creating spaces for students to showcase their abilities, preparing them to face community development challenges.
For his part, Ahmed Mezhar, President of the National Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research (Fes Branch), explained that the symposium provided an opportunity to exchange experiences between various stakeholders in the field of volunteering, both locally and internationally. The event also saw the recognition of several young volunteers as part of the “Youth Volunteer” initiative, with a focus on international experiences like the “Bevol” platform and the “Social Responsibility” initiative.
Participants stressed the importance of enhancing partnerships between universities and government institutions, such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Solidarity, to ensure the sustainability of volunteer projects and their integration into development plans. The symposium concluded with a call to continue efforts to promote a volunteer culture in Moroccan universities, viewing it as a vital element for achieving comprehensive development.
