On Tuesday, November 19th, a significant electoral event took place in the Fes-Meknes region, where members of the Craft Industry Chamber failed to meet the legal quorum during the first session due to the absence of some members. Only 53 members attended, while 55 were required for the session to proceed legally. Despite this setback, hope remains for completing the process in the second round of the elections, which will give members the opportunity to meet the quorum and present new nominations for the office presidency.
Many members expressed their political stances and the challenges they encountered during the session. One member pointed to attempts by some factions within the Justice and Development Party (PJD) to prevent certain members from participating in the election based on party instructions. However, they emphasized that all members were fully prepared to participate freely.
Despite these attempts, PJD members stood firm in their right to engage in the electoral process. In contrast, representatives from the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) were notably absent, with only two members attending out of eight, reflecting the varying political positions that impacted the actual attendance.
The main topic among the members was the need for change. They all agreed on the necessity of transforming the current state of the chamber, considering that the conditions it had faced in the past period were not conducive to success.
One member highlighted the need for a complete renewal of management methods, stating that the current phase no longer meets the members’ expectations. They emphasized that the upcoming elections represent a real opportunity for this change, with a call for restructuring the office to ensure fair and balanced distribution of positions among all members.
Members expressed a strong determination for inter-party cooperation, noting that parties like the RNI, USFP, Istiqlal, and the Popular Movement had united in a “Goodwill Group” to support the electoral process. One member stated, “We are here for the benefit of everyone, working together to promote the craft industry in the region.” Despite the political differences, everyone agreed that collaboration between the parties was essential for the success of the electoral process.
Although the first session failed to achieve the quorum, there is optimism about the upcoming phase, with members pinning their hopes on the second round, which will be decisive in determining the new leadership of the chamber. One member expressed confidence, saying, “We are confident that in the second round, we will complete the election and select the new president who will take on the responsibility.”
