Moroccan Company Wins Major Contract in High-Speed Rail Project Between Kenitra and Marrakech

Casablanca – The Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF) has announced that Grand Travaux Routiers (GTR), a subsidiary of French company Colas, has won the fifth lot of civil engineering works for the high-speed rail project (LGV) between Kenitra and Marrakech, valued at 2.15 billion Moroccan dirhams.

This lot includes “excavation works, technical structures, communications reconstruction, and fencing.” GTR, which submitted the lowest-cost bid, outperformed its competitors in this tender, including China Overseas Engineering Group, China Gezhouba Group, and the SNCE-CAPEB-SEPROB consortium.

With this win, GTR becomes the second Moroccan company to secure a lot in the high-speed rail civil engineering project, following TGCC, which recently won the fourth lot valued at 2.83 billion dirhams.

Three other lots were previously awarded to Chinese groups: China Railway NO.4 Engineering, Shandong Hi-Speed Engineering Construction Group, and China Railway 20th Bureau Group (CRCC 20), valued at 3.4, 4.05, and 2.83 billion dirhams respectively.

The high-speed line (LGV) project comprises several components, starting with a new high-speed line connecting Kenitra to Marrakech, station modernization, and creating links connecting the new line to the existing network. Additionally, improvements to the conventional line, maintenance works, and new operational facilities will be implemented.

The high-speed train will follow a specific route starting from Kenitra, passing through major stations such as the Rabat tunnel, Ain Atiq, Zenata, and reaching the new Nouaceur station before arriving in Marrakech.

This project is considered a significant step in developing Morocco’s transport infrastructure and is expected to contribute to strengthening the national economy and improving connectivity between the kingdom’s major cities.
