Traditional Moroccan Attire: A Symbol of Cultural Identity

Traditional attire is a fundamental symbol reflecting the diverse yet harmonious cultural identity of the Moroccan people.

This diversity is evident in the Moroccan caftan, which is renowned for its beauty and ever-renewing authenticity, making it a cultural ambassador for Morocco around the world.

The caftan holds a special place in the hearts of Moroccans, as it preserves community traditions through celebrations of various social and national occasions.

The Moroccan royal family has placed significant importance on this garment, supporting all initiatives aimed at developing and promoting it internationally.

In light of the challenges facing the Moroccan caftan in the markets, the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social Economy, and Solidarity will organize a workshop tomorrow, Friday, October 11, 2024, at the regional directorate of handicrafts in Fez.

The goal of this workshop is to discuss the specifications for establishing a collective certification mark for the Moroccan caftan, representing an important step toward enhancing the quality of this heritage product.

Participants in this meeting will include representatives from both central and regional sectors of handicrafts, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, as well as experts and stakeholders, especially traditional artisans and designers.

This workshop is the result of a study conducted in collaboration between the handicrafts sector and the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, aimed at improving the quality of the caftan and protecting this national heritage.

Morocco ranks first in Africa in terms of trademark production, according to a report from the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Through such initiatives, Morocco aims to reinforce the ministry’s commitments to preserving artisanal skills and enhancing intangible cultural heritage, making the Moroccan caftan a symbol of pride and national identity.
