Sharp Disagreements in the Alliance between RNI and PAM in Sidi Hrazem Municipality Spark Controversy and Raise Questions

In a dramatic development on the local political scene, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) in the Fez-Meknes region issued a strongly worded statement expressing its deep dissatisfaction with the events surrounding the election of the president of the Sidi Hrazem municipal council, which took place on the morning of Monday, October 7, 2024. The statement came after a series of developments described as a betrayal of the prior agreement between the two parties regarding the distribution of positions within the municipality’s governing bureau.

According to the statement, there was a pre-existing agreement on the distribution of positions between the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and the Authenticity and Modernity Party, where PAM was supposed to obtain the position of first or second vice-president, along with the council secretary and the presidency of two committees. However, the voting proceedings witnessed a major surprise, as only the fourth vice-president position was allocated to PAM, prompting the party’s councilors to withdraw and retract their nominations in protest of what they described as a breach of the agreement.

Councilor Kamal El Manwar from PAM stated that what happened reflects a lack of commitment to political ethics and held the leadership of both parties responsible for this development. El Manwar added that the party was seeking to achieve the public good, but these events show that the alliance was not built on solid foundations.

These events are expected to spark further debate about the future of the alliance between RNI and PAM in Sidi Hrazem, with the potential for escalating tensions in the region. PAM affirmed that it will take strict measures to respond to what happened and will continue to defend its interests in service of the local population, indicating that the political game has not ended but has just begun.
