Rabat – Renowned Moroccan artist Naima Lemcherki passed away on Saturday morning, October 5, 2024, at the age of 81, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy spanning decades.
Lemcherki was known for her prolific career that encompassed cinema, television, and theater. Among her most notable television works were her roles in the series “Allal El-Kalda” and “Tasqot Al-Kheil Taba’an,” which achieved great success with Moroccan audiences.
In theater, Lemcherki distinguished herself through collaborations with Morocco’s most famous theater troupes, including Al-Mamoura, Basatin, Masrah Al-Ons, and the Moroccan Radio and Television Company troupe. In 1998, she won the Best Voice Performance award for her role in the series “Amina” during the Arab Radio Festival in Cairo.
In cinema, Lemcherki participated in more than 20 Italian and French feature films, in addition to numerous Moroccan short and feature films. Her most prominent cinematic works include “Wedding of Blood,” “Faten,” “Battle of the Three Kings,” “Lalla Hobbi,” and “Swallows’ Alley.”
Lemcherki’s influence extended beyond the artistic field to include humanitarian and social work. She served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and worked as an advisor to the National Observatory for Children’s Rights. She also held the position of Assistant President of the National Union of Theater Professionals.
It is worth noting that the passing of Naima Lemcherki represents a significant loss to the Moroccan and Arab artistic scene, as she left an indelible mark in the fields of art and humanitarian work.
