The Moroccan Ministry of Interior announced on Monday a new toll of human losses resulting from the storms and heavy rains that struck several regions of the kingdom last Friday. According to the ministry’s statement, the death toll has reached 18 people, while 4 others remain missing.
The ministry detailed the casualties as follows:
- 10 deaths in Tata province
- 3 deaths in Errachidia province, including a Canadian citizen and a Peruvian
- 2 deaths in Tiznit province
- 2 deaths in Tinghir province, including a Spanish citizen
Regarding the missing persons, the ministry indicated that a list of 4 missing individuals in the Tata region has been compiled, and search operations are continuing diligently and continuously.
The Ministry of Interior affirmed in its statement that “various public authorities are working on a comprehensive mobilization of all necessary human resources and logistical means to respond quickly and effectively to this exceptional situation, and to take all appropriate measures to provide support to citizens.” It added that this support includes distributing food rations, tents, and blankets to affected families, and working to quickly resume services and communication networks in the affected areas.
The ministry concluded its statement by emphasizing the ongoing efforts to address the consequences of this natural disaster and support those affected by all available means.
