Morocco intends to launch a tender to select a specialized firm to study the high-speed train project between Fez and Rabat via Meknes, the city that will host training camps and accommodations for teams participating in the 2030 World Cup.
Morocco is moving slowly but steadily towards providing modern, world-class transportation that meets FIFA standards for transporting fans and delegations. It aims to establish a new high-speed rail line between Fez and Rabat and is preparing to launch a tender to select a specialized firm to study the project.
The total cost of the project is 23 billion dirhams, and it will reduce the travel time from Fez to Rabat via Meknes from three and a half hours to one hour and 40 minutes. The plan includes developing the current railway line and creating a new dedicated high-speed rail line, with the construction of several bridges in the Khemisset province.
This new project and other railway infrastructure under construction will not only facilitate the mobility of Moroccans and visitors during the 2030 World Cup but will also increase Morocco’s global competitiveness to become one of the world’s leading countries in high-speed rail networks, alongside major nations such as China, France, Spain, and Germany.
